Brain Injury Support

Catherine sustained a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) in 2011. Since that time, she has written and spoken publicly about her experiences and presented a brain-focused session at the Body Monologues in 2014. An adaptation of her post-concussion (PCS) story, Running Away with the Circus, was published in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Step Outside Your Comfort Zone in 2017. A story describing her post-concussion depression, Not Now, will be included in Brainstorm: The Mental Health Revolution being published in October 2018.

Catherine’s curiosity about the after-effects of mTBI led her to study post-concussion brain rehabilitation at Brock University in 2017. In addition to her academic work, she interviewed women who sustained mTBIs and found that many were dealing with similar issues and ongoing symptoms. Catherine is using this research, combined with her own journey with PCS and PTSD, to help others. She informally mentors and coaches others with mTBI, and she offers personalized guidance to those who need to find additional help elsewhere.
